Calabash Cove- a bit of paradise in Saint Lucia

Driving up a winding road through a residential area about 10 minutes from Rodney Bay, you really have no clue that a bit of paradise is in store for you.

Watch out Saint Lucia, there’s a new boutique hotel in town that is one of My Vacation Lady’s favorites.  Calabash Cove has only 26 rooms in all and each provides a luxury not found in every resort on the island.  This is not going to be the perfect property for everyone but for those clients who want a quiet, serene and peaceful vacation or honeymoon, Calabash Cove may fit the bill.

With only 26 rooms, you don’t have a lot of choices, unlike some of the other resorts on Saint Lucia.  Their top of the line room is the Water’s Edge Cottage.  While we didn’t get to see the cottages (since all 9 of them were booked up),  the 1000 square feet cottages are complete with their own private plunge pool, jacuzzi and outdoor shower.

The 2 room cottage is rich in feel with its  teak and mahogany bathroom, and sun deck.  The well appointed bedroom and living room are spacious and comfortable. Most of the cottages are not beachfront- but rather overlook the sea from their perch on the hill. Three of them (cottages 6-9) are right next to the beach.   My honeymooners love this room- but please be aware that while the bedroom and bathroom are fully air conditioned, the living room is not.

There are 4 swim up junior suites.  These rooms literally open up to the infinity pool.  At about 600 square feet, these rooms are spacious with a well appointed bathroom, complete with jacuzzi tub.   Just outside the room is a patio with 2 lounge chairs and then a few steps further is the infinity pool.  You can’t get much more relaxed than this!  Just something to be aware of, the infinity pool is not a private pool so you might want to keep the blinds drawn for a bit of extra privacy in the room.

Just above the swim up suites on the 2nd floor of the Manor House and in an adjacent building on the first and second floors, the 13 sunset junior suites are spacious and have a free standing over sized jacuzzi in the bedroom.  They are actually a bit larger than the swim up junior suites and have a very open feel to them.

Sunset Junior Suite

We viewed suite 210 on the 2nd floor of the Manor House and we were very impressed.  Realize that this is the resort’s lowest level room category, in other words, their cheapest room.   The term sunset implies great sunset views and while we were there in the daytime, I can only imagine the fabulous views over the infinity pool from these rooms.

Let’s talk about some of the property’s amenities.  Again, this resort is not going to be the right resort for everyone but it will be perfect for the right client.

There is only 1 restaurant, Windsong, on property open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  The menu changes daily and is inspired by fresh ingredients.  The C bar is adjacent to Windsong and is a piano bar from 5-7 pm.

Its elegant and laid back.  The swim up pool bar makes it very convenient to get a drink and never leave the pool.  The infinity pool is gorgeous with sun loungers nearby.  Covered pool cabanas are on a sundeck near by and offer a bit of reprieve from the sun.  Talking about sun deck- one great feature is the boardwalk and private sundeck over the Caribbean.  Can you picture having a romantic dinner for 2 in the evening on this boardwalk, watching the sunset?

One of the top amenities of this resort is the Ti  Spa.  The spa features specialty scrubs- island fruit, pumpkin pie, lemon salt and coffee were available while we were there.  While the women tend to go for the island fruit and lemon salt, the coffee scrub is a hit among the men.  A small fitness center is adjacent to the spa.

The beach at Calabash Cove is a small and secluded cove just steps down form the resort along a lush and tropical garden path.

A honeymoon package is available and includes a couples massage, romantic dinner for 2 and more.

Calabash Cove offers an all inclusive plan which includes a stocked mini bar, room service and no buffets.  At about $250 per night per couple, while it may sound expensive, it is a good value.

While this property is not technically adult only, and the waters edge bungalow will accommodate 2 children up to 6 years old and the sunset junior suites can accommodate 1 child up to 6.  This is not the property that I would suggest for families.  There are no daytime activities, no loud music, no kids center and nothing to keep the kids occupied.  If you are looking for a family friendly resort, My Vacation Lady can certainly recommend some great ones in St Lucia.  In the meantime, we would prefer to keep this gem to ourselves.
