It has been an amazingly hot summer and for those Americans who don’t live near a beach or lake, a swimming hole is a great place to cool down. Many are in national parks. Some are rivers or gorges cut into mountains but all have the important ingredient— water!
When our kids were young, we took a vacation to the Grand Canyon and had the opportunity to visit Slide Rock State Park in Oak Creek Canyon just outside of Sedona. A picture is hanging on our wall of the kids in the water there having a great time. Too bad it was in the days before digital cameras because it is certainly one of my favorite pictures of them.
While Slide Rock didn’t make this list of top swimming holes in the U.S. it’s neighbor in Lake Havasu did.
