Why Belize?

Belize is one of new, hot honeymoon destinations right now.  It’s a small country located in Central America, south of Mexico and north of Guatemala.  Bordering the Caribbean Sea, Belize is truly one of the few remaining unspoiled places on earth.  Belize’s tagline is “mother nature’s best kept secret.”  Once you return from your honeymoon in Belize, you’re likely to agree.

What makes Belize a great honeymoon destination?

  • It has the longest barrier reef in Western Hemisphere
  • It’s home to the Great Blue Hole and great snorkel and dive locations.
  • It’s home to hundreds of ancient Maya sites and ruins
  • It has a lush tropical rainforest with many different species of birds along with exotic tropical flora and fauna.
  • The Belizeans are English-speaking and are excited to share their local dishes, colorful arts and crafts, foot-tapping music, and local traditions.

Unique Accommodations

One of the best features of Belize are their unique resorts and accommodations.  You’re not going to find many big chain resorts in Belize.  Most of the properties are small boutique properties that are built to enhance the beauty of the country.

From treetop suites at jungle lodges to boutique hotels set along the long white sand beaches of the Placencia region to upscale boutique resorts in Ambergris Cay, Belize has so many different types of property that there will be some that might be perfect for most honeymooners.

What is there to see and do in Belize?

Belize, like Costa Rica, is perfect for those honeymooners who want to mix some eco-adventure with romance.

If jungle activities are what you enjoy, Belize offers both soft and active adventures. Do you want to zip line through the jungle?  How about cave tubing through underground caves?

How about canoeing or kayaking down a jungle river?  You can horseback ride or hike through national parks.

Want to see wildlife?  How about jaguars- Belize has the only wildlife preserve devoted to jaguars in the world.  Birds-there are over 320 species in Belize.  Monkeys—Belize has spider and black howler monkeys. Belize also has green sea turtles and a huge amount of sealife in its long barrier reef.

Water based adventures are suited for all activity level. If you are a certified diver, the scuba diving is one of the best in the world.  If you don’t dive try snorkeling, wind or kite surfing, para-sailing or cruising on a catamaran. You can snorkel around deserted islands like Snake Caye, along the southern coast for a Robinson Crusoe type adventure.

Belize’s history is rich from ancient Mayan culture and you can visit and explore Mayan ruins at Caracol, Altun Ha and Lamanai, as an example or take a day trip from the jungles of Belize over to visit Tikal in Guatemala.

When is the best time to visit Belize?

The best time to visit Belize is November through May.

June and July tends to be hot and humid with some rain.   August gives a bit of a reprieve from the rain which comes back in full force in September and October.

Is Belize the right honeymoon destination for you?

Belize is not going to be the best honeymoon destination for everyone.  If you are looking for an adult only all inclusive beachfront resort, Belize is not for you.  If you are looking for absolute luxury and deluxe resorts, Belize  may not be for you.  If you are looking for a hopping nightlife, Belize is not for you.

If you are looking for unique accommodations, fabulous beaches, tons of activities and adventures, friendly locals and something a bit off the beaten trail, Belize may be the perfect honeymoon destination for you.
