passport_stampsIn the last couple of weeks, My Vacation Lady has gotten requests for help with planning vacations for a number of clients who want to travel in August.   This is July.  I’m sure we can find them a great vacation destination.  They were considering somewhere in the Caribbean or Mexico.  The problem is…. in both cases, they still don’t have passports.

OK, in the Caribbean, you can still go to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands without a valid passport and you can technically take a cruise (only if it starts and ends in the same cruise port- and I really still recommend a passport, just in case you have to be flown home early from the cruise).

In both cases, a cruise, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands didn’t fit their vacation dreams so they need to hurry up and get a passport.

The post office and the passport offices will tell you that it can take 6 weeks for a passport.  While I typically hear that it takes much less time than that, if you are traveling in the next month, you might need to get your passport expedited.

Here are some tips on how to get your passport quickly.

My Vacation Lady always recommends getting your passport BEFORE you book your vacation.  Since airline tickets need to be in the exact name that is on your passport, we like to make sure and check your passports before you book your tickets.  In one case, just about a month ago, I noticed that a groom’s passport was expiring right before the wedding.  Luckily, he had enough time to renew it without having to expedite the passport and he saved himself some money to buy his new wife something nice on their honeymoon 🙂
