Lots of exciting things have been going on at Walt Disney World in 2012 with more to continue in 2013.

  • Fantasyland nearly doubled in size
  • Disney’s Art of Animation opened
  • the “Celebrate the Magic” a new nighttime show transforms Cinderella’s Castle into a fantastic display of lights and colors
  • Kilimanjaro Safaris, at the Animal Kingdom, now features an all-new finale — a herd of plains zebras
  • The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow, a new experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, gives visitors a chance to become immersed in the action and adventure of the four Pirates of the Caribbean films.
  • Phineas & Ferb: Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure is the new spy adventure in Epcot, allowing visitors to be secret agents for the day

What can Disney World guests look forward to this year?

  • The  spas, salons and fitness centers throughout the park resorts will be owned and operated by Disney beginning Jan.16.
  • The spa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort will temporarily close for renovation in January and reopen in the summer as Senses — A Disney Spa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort.
  • “Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom” a new role playing game in the Magic Kingdom, challenges guests to discover and defeat the Disney villains who are wreaking havoc behind the scenes at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Players become apprentice sorcerers and embark on a challenge to stop these animated villains from stealing one of the four shattered pieces of Merlin’s powerful crystal ball. Armed with magic powers in the form of special cards, Magic Kingdom guests can follow magic symbols that lead them to different villain hideouts in Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, and Main Street, U.S.A. Once there, they will use magic keys to access the villain’s lair, and “spell” cards to halt the evildoers in their tracks.
  • For those of you who can’t live without your lattes, Starbucks will be opening locations at Disney theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.
  • The Main Street Bakery in the Magic Kingdom will close for refurbishment in January. When it reopens in early summer, it will keep its name and continue to serve Disney favorites like cookies, brownies and seasonal cupcakes plus Starbucks signature beverages and other menu items.
  • Fountain View, at Epcot, will temporarily close in March. When it reopens in midsummer, it will also serve Starbucks products.

New dining comes to Disney World in 2013:

  • Mickey Check is a way of identifying nutritious food choices and guests can expect Mickey Check on the kids’ menu at Be Our Guest Restaurant, the first location to offer Kids’ Complete Meals”
  •  Mickey Check will also be offered on all quick-service menus at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.
  • The California Grill at the Contemporary Resort is getting a major makeover and will be closed from Jan. 6 until the summer. The menu is being tweaked but the focus will remain on fresh, seasonal creations.
  • Citricos at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is now offering  a private dining experience in The Chef’s Domain for up to 10 guests. Available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, the price is $155 per person plus tax including gratuities for six courses.
