My Vacation Lady gets questions from engaged couples on how much they should expect to pay for their honeymoon and there is no set answer than we can give them without first having a complete and in depth consultation about what type of honeymoon experience they are looking for. It’s a big world out there and there are so many options to choose from.
We randomly chose a $7500 budget to see what it would get honeymooners getting married in 2014. Based on what some of our current 2014 honeymoon couples have already booked and then randomly picking June 2014 (one of the most popular months to get married), we looked at other options for that budget.
Some destinations are going to give you more bang for your buck so let’s start off with the Riviera Maya where, in June, you can get 10 nights in 3 different adult only all inclusive resorts well under the $7500 budget with non stop flights from the NY/NJ area, round trip hotel transfers and travel insurance. At a 4+ star adult only all inclusive, you can get the honeymoon suite with concierge level service + a great honeymoon package (with proof of marriage within the resort’s required timeframe) that includes a romantic beachfront dinner, breakfast in bed and a couples massage. In a 5 star adult only all inclusive resort, you can get an oceanfront junior suite with concierge level service, a honeymoon package (again based on meeting the resort’s requirements) including a beachfront dinner, couples massage and more. In another 5 star adult only all inclusive resort, you can get an ocean view junior suite with butler service. Each of these will have enough room in the budget for swimming with dolphins, a day trip to Tulum and zip lining and a bit of shopping, as well.
For 7 nights in June 2014, clients are already booked into one of the 5 star adult only all inclusive resorts in a 2 story rooftop terrace suite with their own private plunge pool on their rooftop terrace, with air from Dallas (so add a couple of hundred more to go out of the NY/NJ area per person) and they still have enough money for all of the tours listed above as well.
Speaking of adult only all inclusive resorts, let’s see what Jamaica has to offer for 10 nights with air from NYC. We looked at 3 different adult only all inclusive resorts, 1 in Ocho Rios, 1 in Negril and 1 closer to Montego Bay. In Ocho Rios, you can get a Beachfront room with concierge level service. In the resort closest to Montego Bay, you can get an Ocean Front junior suite with butler service. In Negril, you can get a beachfront suite, including a catamaran cruise, snorkeling and scuba diving (for PADI certified divers or take a resort course), a couples massage, and still plenty of money left to go swimming with dolphins, take an ATV tour and go ziplining.
In Costa Rica, you can spend 5 nites at a 4 1/2 + star resort in Arenal and 5 nights in a 5 star all inclusive beachfront resort in the Guancaste area, including airfare, transfers, a zip line excursion, ATV excursion, a hanging bridges excursion, hot springs + dinner evening, hiking excursion, rafting excursion, horseback riding and more.
In Saint Lucia, which is pricier than many other Caribbean islands, you can get 7 night with air from the NY/NJ area in a unique adult only resort in the Soufriere area, with views of the Pitons and an all inclusive package and transfers within budget. You can get a swim up junior suite in another adult oriented boutique resort in Castries for 7 nights with airfare, transfers and an all inclusive plan with a honeymoon package (romantic ocean side dinner + a couples massage). For a bit less, you can get a 1 bedroom suite with plunge pool at another unique resort in the Soufriere area with a continental breakfast and you’ll still have money for a trip to the mud baths and a sunset cruise.
Honeymooners just booked 10 nights in Hawaii (5 in Maui in a 4 star resort in a partial oceanview room with breakfast daily) and 5 in a garden view room in a 5 star resort in Kauai with breakfast daily. Their honeymoon includes air from Newark, cars in both islands, inter-island airfare and a luau and a sunrise bike tour down Haleakala.
If you are interested in Europe, $7500 will get you 7 nights in Italy. You can stay in a nicely located 4 star hotel in Rome fir 3 nights with arrival transfers and a 3 hour private driving tour, train tickets to Naples and transfers to a 4+ star hotel in Sorrento with a sea view, an excursion to Pompeii or Capri, transfers back to Naples for your flights, breakfast in both hotels and air from NYC. In Spain, you can do 3 nights in Madrid in a nicely located 4 star hotel, with arrival transfers, a 3 day Madrid pass (entrance into many sights and attractions), train tickets to Barcelona and 4 nights in a nice 4 star hotel. Breakfast in included in both hotels as is airfare from NYC.
While none of these options may be the perfect option for you, we hope that this will give you some idea of what you can get for less than $7500.
