Since some of the honeymoon statistics that brides and grooms can find is about 2 years old, My Vacation Lady took an unscientific poll of travel agents around the United States who specialize in honeymoons to see what their top honeymoon destinations were for 2012 and what an average honeymoon cost. The results varied a bit, based on the location of the travel professional, but this might give newly engaged couples some ideas.
2012 Top Honeymoon Destinations
- Riviera Maya/Cancun, Mexico
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
- Saint Lucia
- Europe (including France, Greece, Portugal, Spain, England, Ireland)
- Caribbean (including Antigua, Aruba, Barbados, etc)
- Fiji and Costa Rica were tied
How much did an average honeymoon cost in 2012?
The average honeymoon cost on this very unscientific poll was $4987. This cost though, is not necessarily what a bride and groom in 2013 should expect to pay for their honeymoon.
This average was taken from 21 travel professionals nationwide. The highest average honeymoon cost were from travel professionals in the New York City metropolitan region, Los Angeles area and Seattle area. This average included honeymoons to Tahiti and Hawaii and Europe, as well as, honeymoons to Las Vegas and Florida.
When trying to get average luxury honeymoon costs, My Vacation Lady found that the average honeymoon to Hawaii was about $8000 and the average honeymoon to Tahiti was about $12,000. The average honeymoon to Europe was $6300 but that did not include airfare from the U.S. (Based on current rates that can add on another $2000-3000 to the honeymoon).
