To really appreciate the beauty of Hawaii’s interior, take a walk along some of the hiking trails. We aren’t talking hiking boots and walking sticks for all of the hikes (although they can help on many trails) but we’ve done some of these and we are not big hikers. The picture to the left was taken in Kauai along the Maha’ulepu Heritage Trail, just steps from the Grand Hyatt Kauai. As you can see, it’s a nice level (in most spots) trail with some amazing views.
When Hawaii Magazine asked it’s Facebook fans to vote for their favorite hiking trails in Hawaii, Maha’ulepu Heritage Trail didn’t make the list but the Kalalua Trail did. Others that also didn’t make the list were,
the Kaena Point, Makapuu Lighthouse and Koko Head trails on Oahu; hikes into Waipio and Pololu valleys on the Big Island; a half-dozen trails traversing the summit of Haleakala volcano on Maui; and several terrific hikes in the cloud-level forests of Kauai’s Kokee State Park
