Before I even say anything about this virus, please let me say that I am not a doctor and you should always consult your physician if you have concerns of how the Zika Virus can effect you.
My Vacation Lady is trying to provide you with less sensationalized info on the virus and how it may effect your vacation or honeymoon.
According to the most recent CDC listing from Jan 26, 2016, these are the countries that have had reports of the Zika Virus:
- Dominican Republic
- El Salvador
- French Guiana
- Puerto Rico
- Saint Martin
- U.S. Virgin Islands
Also, Samoa and Cape Verde have reports of the virus.
We are going to list some links to the CDC’s website that includes very good information about this virus.
While My Vacation Lady’s clients have not cancelled vacations or honeymoons yet due to the scare of the Zika Virus, we are hearing lots of concern.
One couple booked a honeymoon to Costa Rica (which is not on the CDC destinations list effected) and heard that there was an OUTBREAK of Zika in Costa Rica and that they need to wait 4 years before trying to conceive. This was sensationalized by a magazine article. The current facts about the Zika virus in Costa Rica was reported on Jan 26, 2016. One man was reported with the virus after returning from a trip to Colombia. Do you see how this is completely blown out of control?
What are My Vacation Lady’s suggestions?
- If you are currently pregnant or are trying to conceive, consult your doctor before booking a vacation.
- If you already have a vacation booked and are concerned, consult your doctor, learn the ways of avoiding mosquito bites and watch the CDC websites
- If you haven’t booked your vacation or honeymoon and are interested in destinations currently on the CDC list, ask about Cancel for Any Reason travel insurance.
My Vacation Lady is not a doctor— just a travel professional who works very closely to help our clients plan their dream vacations and honeymoons. We are also the parents of daughters, daughter in laws and many nieces who are of child bearing age so we are watching this very closely. We don’t want you to be uncomfortable on your vacation but we also don’t want you to believe all of the news articles and TV news reports that are instilling fear in their readers and listeners.
Please consult the CDC and your physician.
