As we travel more and more as a multi-generational family, we will start focusing on some resorts and trips that are great for Family vacations.
In late June, Mr. and Mrs. My Vacation Lady went with our daughter’s family on a mini getaway to a “dude ranch” in update New York. Well trust me, horses were the smallest part of our vacation.
We had a great time at Rocking Horse Ranch and even rebooked for next summer before we left. Our grandkids (6 and 3) had the best time on the water slides, mini bunging jumping, pony rides and more that we had a hard time getting them into the car to leave.
We did paddle boating, canoeing and fed the huge carp in the lake (bread provided by the hotel).
The bungee jumpers were a hit with mom, and both kids. Mom did mountain tubing with the 6 year old and they loved it so much that they did it again!
While the kids loved the pony rides, both were too young for the trail rides, but they were also included into the inclusive price.
There was a daily schedule of events. Honestly, I felt like I was on a cruise ship- always something going on. There was an entertainment team that kept the kids and adults involved in activities during the day and even during the evening where there were 2 shows a night.
We really didn’t even do everything that was offered because the outdoor pool and slides kept them busy in the afternoons. There is an indoor pool and kids splash park but we never used it since it was great weather for the outdoor pool.
Three meals a day were included. Honestly, I expected the food to be more like buffet food but dinner was a sit down, waiter service meal with multiple choices of appetizer, entree and then a self serve dessert bar. Breakfast was buffet with made to order eggs and lunch was a barbeque. Special dietary needs could be met and next year we’ll know to order nuggets and mac and cheese for lunch for the picky eaters.
We are hoping to go with our son’s family in the winter since they want their boys to be able to ski and snow tubing. There is also a new ice skating rink and all equipment is included.
A 2 or 3 night stay is perfect and that was what most of the guests were staying. Like us, there were many grandparents, parents and grandkids and many large extended family groups. Most were from NY, NJ, PA and CT but I did hear a Boston accent up there as well.
We now understand why people come back to Rocking Horse Ranch year after year– it’s the perfect mini getaway for families. Some of the guests came as kids and now are bringing their families and grandchildren! We might be among those repeaters too!
