Some great ideas for multi-generational family vacations

Recently, My Vacation Lady has been planning more and more multi-generational family vacations.  As our friends and family is starting to get older, and as more of the children start getting married and having families of their own, many of our clients are turning to us to help them plan a vacation that all ages will enjoy.

40th anniversary vacation

Cruises

Cruises are great for multi-generational families.   There is always something for all ages to enjoy on a cruise.  Since meals are included, that reduces a big expense for meals.  With kid’s and teen’s clubs onboard, the kids can be entertained while the adults relax and enjoy the ship’s amenities.

In fact, my sister is joining her daughter, son in law and 2 grandsons on a cruise next month.  My niece’s in-laws started this trend a couple of years ago.  While my sister is the  ”been there done that “ kind of person, it wasn’t hard to convince her to take this Caribbean cruise when she realized that she will never  be able to dig sand castles with her 4 and 1 year old grandsons on the beaches of Bermuda, St Martin and a private island again.

With cruises leaving from many different cities, cruises from the NY/NJ metro region are especially popular with My Vacation Lady’s clients since you don’t have to add the expensive (and hassle) of flying to a cruise port.  We even have some multi-generational cruises planned for clients for next summer.

All Inclusive Resorts

All inclusive resorts have become incredibly popular for multi-generational families.  We’ve sent clients celebrating a milestone birthday or anniversary or even retirement to all inclusive resorts with the kids and grandchildren in tow.

What makes all inclusive resorts so convenient for these type of family vacations?

  • Everything is included—you are not putting your hand in your pocket every time someone wants a drink or a snack.
  • Kids clubs and entertainment for all ages.
  • You don’t need to think or worry about finding a restaurant for dinner or how to keep the kids busy- it’s all there.

Family friendly escorted tours

This type of vacation is another one that can fall into the “you don’t need to think or worry” category.  There are a good number of tour operators that offer family friendly tours to destinations like Europe,  Central America and South America, the US and Canada, the South Pacific,  African safaris and much more.

This is a quote from the Trafalgar website for family vacations:

Discover real experiences on your family getaway

On our Castles & Kilts trip, a Local Specialist will take you to see the must-see sights like Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament, and make sure the children enjoy it with tales of murderous monarchs and characters like Guy Fawkes, who as every British child knows tried to blow up parliament in 1605.

There’ll also be a few Optional Experiences to choose from, such as a trip to Paddington’s Platform 9 3/4 for the Hogwarts Express.

Your Travel Director will make sure every aspect of your family adventure runs smoothly with meticulous precision, from 4 and 5-star accommodation and luxury travel to making sure you never have to carry your own luggage or queue at the sights. Leaving you free to take in as much as you like and have the best family vacation.

While an escorted tour may not be the right multi-generation vacation for a family with young kids, it may hit the wish list of teens and tweens who have traveled to the normal vacation spots before.

When it comes to planning a group vacation involving many ages, it is always best to turn to a specialist.  My Vacation Lady has been helping our clients plan family vacations and multi-generational vacations for years and we have the experience and expertise to plan a vacation that will make memories to last a lifetime.
