My Vacation Lady just had clients return from Iceland for a 5 day stay with great activities that cost more than a lot of people would even think about spending on a vacation. John and Joan took their 3 adult children and their spouses (or significant others) on this vacation of a lifetime. It may be the last time that they’ll be able to do something like this for a while since one of their daughter’s is pregnant and will be giving John and Joan their first grandchild later this year.
Jeff and Beth are taking their daughter, son in law and toddler grandson on a cruise to Bermuda in a couple of weeks. While not quite as expensive as the Iceland vacation, it’s still a hefty sum for a week.
Sue and Art took their kids and grandchildren (12 of them in total) to a luxury all inclusive resort in Turks and Caicos for 6 nights to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary and Sue’s 70th birthday.
Why would parents and grandparents pay the equivalent of some people’s annual wages for a 1 week family vacation?

Our kids (who are now adults with babies of their own) remember some of the vacations that we took them on more than some of the toys, video games and other things that we bought them.
Our kids will remember the time where we took a helicopter tour and landed on a glacier in Alaska. They’ll remember white water rafting on that same cruise more than the Nintendo games that we bought them. My daughter still remembers a family vacation to the White Mountains in New Hampshire when she was about 8 but probably not how many Barbie dolls she had at that age. My son will remember cave tubing in Belize and hiking in the Grand Canyon a lot longer than the Nintendo games that he played with his friends at those ages.
