Greece is HOT for 2024 honeymoons and .  Greece honeymoons were My Vacation Lady’s top requested destination for 2023.  Our clients always look to us to help them figure out what they should do and see on their honeymoon that will be fun but also romantic.

Here are some suggestions on what to see and do in Greece for a honeymoon!

Santorini-

Santorini is everyone’s dream of romance.    Is is known for it’s world famous sunsets, buildings that appear to hang off the cliff side with views overlooking the Caldera.

  • How about a romantic sunset cruise?  And for those with larger budgets, we can offer a private cruise — just the 2 of you.
  • Explore some beaches including Kamari, Perissa, and Perivolo (longest black sand beach).  The most famous is Red Beach.  Agios Georgios is very tourist friendly.  Please keep in mind that the beaches in Santorini are going to be pebbly rather than soft white sand.
  • What about a wine adventure tour and checking out a few different Santorini wineries?
  • To add a bit of history to the winery visits, you can combine it with a visit to the Akrotiri Excavations.  Rumor has it that this is the City of Atlantis, a mythical city, frozen in time and now being uncovered from the ash of a volanic eruption from 3600 years ago.
  • If you prefer food to history, you can take a cooking class in Santorini after visiting some wineries.
  • One of our colleagues highly recommends taking a tour of the Santos Winery. They run daily from 10am until sunset during April to November and the  view from their Oenotourism center is stunning– the volcano and the sea.  This is a great place to watch the sunset!!!
  • In Fira,  take a mule train up the side of the cliff and view any cruise ship docked inside the Caldera.
  • Take a walk along the caldera path from Fira to Oia.  It’s about 3 1/2 miles and should take around an hour to 2 hours (depending on how long you stop for photos).  If you take this walk in the afternoon, stay in Oia for sunset.  It’s one of the best places to watch the sun go down.
  • Take a boat ride out to Palia Kameni, one of the 2 volcanic islands in the middle of the Santorini caldera and  take a sulphur mud bath and swim in the hot springs heated from the volcano.
  • The town of Ia, the northernmost point of the island and has narrow streets, unique architecture and fabulous views. Ia overlooks two bays-  the western overlooks Ammoudi bay and the eastern overlooks Armeni bay.  Ammoudi overlooks the sunset.  Plan to arrive in the early evening, allowing plenty of time to meander, shop and take pictures.  You can have a relaxing meal in a Caldera restaurant while watching one of the most beautiful sunsets. (Get to the restaurant early because it gets crowded before sunset)
  • Rent scooters or ATV’s to get around as the towns are very small. It’s easiest to park immediately and explore on foot.

Mykonos-

The village of Mykonos is a place where you can spend at least a day  simply exploring.

  • Take a ferry over to Delos, which is the birthplace of Artemis and Apollo, according to Greek mythology.  Just 2 miles from Mykonos, it’s rich in archaeological exhibits.
  • Visit the back side of the main port and to see ‘Little Venice’
  • Stroll through the streets and alleyways and see if you can find Petros the Pelican.  He’s particularly fond of wandering through the harbor area and loves to get treats from restaurants.
  • Take a Jeep safari tour aound the hidden corners of Mykonos— some of which are only accessible by jeep.  You’ll see some beautiful beaches, ruins of a Venetian Castle and so much more.  It’s advised to get an international drivers license and you need to be able to drive a manual transmission!
  • There a a ton of amazing beaches are only accessible by boat and it’s worth it to take a South Coast Cruise to see some of them.

Naxos-

Naxos is known for their beaches and some of the most popular are Plaka Beach and Agios Prokopios Beach.  There are plenty of restaurants and bars right along the beach with clear water and soft sand.

  • Take a sailing catamaran- either for lunch or for sunset
  • Take a private photo shoot in Old town
  • Join a sailing tour from Agia Anna to Rina’s Cave and Ano & Kato Koufonisi
  • Wander around Old Town
  • Visit the Olive Press Museum
  • Hike to the highest point in the Cyclades
  • Take a cooking class
  • Do some Citron tasting
  • Rent a car and explore the island on your own!

Paros

Paros is getting to be one of the more popular islands for My Vacation Lady’s honeymoners. It’s ideal for romantic couples.

  • The beaches on the south eastern side, such as Golden Beach and New Golden Beach, are particularly popular for windsurfing.
  • Take a  nice day trip from the island is the small island of Antiparos, with the crystal beaches and the relaxing atmosphere.
  • Or take a ferry over to Mykonos or Santorini for the day
  • Take a sunset sail and wine tasting to Naxos
  • Enjoy a cooking class
  • Explore the town of Naoussa with lots of restaurants and boutiques and the Venetian Castle.  Stay for a beautiful sunset over the port of Naoussa

Crete-

There is a ton of things to do on this island.  To really explore the entire island can take a week or 2 in itself so if you’re just staying in Crete for a few days, you’ll need to pick what is most important for you to experience.

  • Visit Old Venetian Harbor and the Venetian lighthouse in the town of Chania.  This waterfront town has a huge market (the Old Chania Market) that will can take a day to explore on it’s own.  Expect to buy some of the olives, spices, cheeses or leather goods.  There is a naval museum,  Greek monastery, a fortress and other archaeological sights right in town. The only Jewish synagogue in Crete that did not get bombed during the war is in Chania and it has a working Roman cistern that still brings water to its bath house.
  • Visit some of the secluded beaches that are secluded like Kyani Akti, Orthi Ammos or Damnoni Beach
  • Take a jeep safari or go horseback riding
  • Go for a long hike through the breathtaking gorge in Samaria National Park.  It’s only for the real hikers— it can take 5 + hours
  • Check out the Lasithi Plateau which is the site of old stone windmills which once provided power and water to the farms in this area.
  • With more than 3000 caves on Crete, some like Milatos are very accessible.  This one, in particular, has a small white chapel in it.  If you see a sign for a cave, check it out but make sure to have on good walking shoes and a flashlight.
  • For the history buffs, try visiting the war cemetery in Souda Bay.
  • Check out Elounda which was once a fishing town and now is the “jet set” area of Crete.
  • Go to Rethymno which is a fascinating old town with a maze of lanes and alleys that are mostly off limits to vehicles.  Old Town sits at the base of a massive Venetian Fortress.
  • Visiting the Palace of Knossos is a must do because its one of the most extensive and famous of the Minoan ancient ruins.  There are other ruins around Crete, like the ruins of Gounia, which is a bit of a hidden gem.
  • The big thing to do in Crete is to rent a car and explore the island on your own.
