My Vacation Lady just saw an article in one of our travel trade e-magazines about a honeymoon redo contest and the absolutely horrible honeymoon the winners of the contest had.  It was definitely a DIY honeymoon that the groom planned himself (without talking to his bride to be).  It was a drive honeymoon and yes, you got it– major car issues, hotels that didn’t make the cut and excursions that were pre-booked that no longer existed.  Basically, it was a disaster.  The couple (now married 13 years and 2 kids later, won a $10,000 vacation redo).

It brought me back to an email that we received from an old client that he wanted to surprise his wife with a Honeymoon Re-Do.  I hadn’t heard from this client in years.  He and his ex traveled with friends a few years ago and I hadn’t heard from him in perhaps 5 years.  We are facebook and instagram friends and I guess he looked me up again for this surprise vacation for his wife.

I didn’t book their honeymoon and he told me that it wasn’t what they hoped it would be.  In a typical male style, it was like pulling teeth to get information from him so he decided that maybe a surprise vacation might not be the best idea so his wife got involved.

So this is the story about their honeymoon…….  Amy’s mother has a friend who is a travel agent.  Amy’s mother booked the honeymoon to an all inclusive resort in Costa Rica for them (which was very nice of her).  The travel agent NEVER ONCE spoke to Amy and Brian.  I found this to be amazing that a travel professional would not even speak to the couple who are taking one of the most special vacations of their lives!

Anyway, after speaking to Brian (who was thinking of an all inclusive resort in the Caribbean- maybe St Lucia) and then speaking to Amy, whose dream was the Greek Islands, we are currently working on an anniversary vacation to the Greek Islands as a honeymoon redo.

Astra Suites, Santorini

Costa Rica is a great honeymoon destination but it ended up not being what Amy and Brian wanted.  Did they have a good time in Costa Rica– yes they did.  Did they think it was romantic?  No.
