With the average age of couples getting married increasing, it seems that more of these engaged couples have been on their own for a while and many are living together before getting married.   So, how many more Kurig machines, crock pots or wine glasses will they need?  This is why My Vacation Lady may suggest a honeymoon registry to some of our couples.

Our couples are looking for very special honeymoons filled with experiences and memories.  Sometimes, those experiences may be pricey and may be out of their honeymoon budgets for for some couples, a honeymoon registry might be perfect.

So what is a honeymoon registry?

Honeymoon travel

A honeymoon registry works similarly to a bridal registry at stores like Macy’s or Bed Bath and Beyond.  Instead of buying a coffee pot, the wedding guest can go onto the couple’s honeymoon registry and choose from a number of gifts.  Some of My Vacation Lady’s clients have asked for things like:

  • spa treatments
  • tropical drinks on the beach
  • excursions and activities
  • romantic beach side dinners
  • breakfast in bed
  • and so much more

Our couples have received anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars worth of experiences to a couple of thousand dollars worth.

Let me explain how the registry that My Vacation Lady recommends works:

The couple will register for their honeymoon registry.  We recommend that they put gifts of  many different price points on the registry.  The registry link is listed on their wedding website and on their shower invitations.  Aunt Mary shops online and sees a zip line tour for 2 that they asked for.  The price is $200.  She purchases the tour online (yes there is a small processing fee – much like I would equate to sales tax or shipping charges) and she can print out the receipt to give to the couple.

After the bridal shower and wedding (or whenever they want),  the couple requests their “gifts” be sent to them.  They will get a check in the mail for the value of the gifts purchased or they can have it directly deposited into a bank account.  Aunt Mary will get a thank you card from the couple thanking them for the zip line tour but they will actually receive cash instead.

So, is a honeymoon registry right for you?  Some honeymooners think it is while others think it is tacky.  I ask you, it is any tackier than asking for gifts on a Macy’s registry?
