Most of My Vacation Lady’s clients will take their honeymoon shortly after their wedding but some choose to wait a while. Sometimes, life gets in the way of taking your honeymoon right away (work, school or family commitments). Sometimes, weather is the determining factor in when to take a honeymoon. For those set on beautiful tropical weather, hurricane season may play a role in postponing a honeymoon.
So what are some of the popular honeymoon destinations and when is the best time to go? It is not our decision to make if you want to go to Phuket in July or if you want to go to the Dominican Republic in mid October for your honeymoon but we’ll certainly let you know that the weather may not be ideal for fun in the sun.
Take a look at this list below and we hope it may help a bit.
Hawaii
- Best months: March to July, October and November
- Worst months: While far from horrible, December and January are coolest (average daytime temperature is 75 degrees); August and September are hottest, The wettest months are from December to March which also corresponds with the best time to whale watch.
Note: In general, the eastern part of the islands tend to get more rain than the southern or western part. This is especially on Kauai where the Princeville area is much rainier than the Poipu (sunny side) and in the Big Island (Hawaii) where Hilo is like a tropical rain forest and Kona is usually drier.
Bahamas
- Best months: November to April
- Worst months: It is hottest (up to 89 degrees on average) and rainiest from June to October, which corresponds to hurricane season.
Bermuda
- Best months: May to October
- Worst month: January and February (but not if you want spa or golf).
- Bermuda is pretty temperate and even the winter is like the Carolina’s weather.
Caribbean
- Best months: Technically, December to May, when the area is coolest and enjoys the most wind, but average temperatures year-round hover between 78 and 88 degrees
- Worst months: “Official” hurricane season runs from June to November; the worst months are August, September, and October. Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Trinidad, and Tobago — are typically outside the hurricane danger zone.
Europe
- Best months: May through September or October. Make sure your hotel has air conditioning if you are traveling in July and August.
- Worst months: December to February. As long as you avoid Festive Season (Christmas/New Years), you can get some great bargains during this time of year.
Florida
- Best months: March, April, October, November
- Worst months: May to September
Note: The Florida Keys experience temperate, Caribbean-like weather year-round.
Mexico
- Best months: October to May
- Worst months: Rainy season runs June through September, but usually only involves a short daily dousing. It is also hotter during the summer months.
Note: Cabo San Lucas is actually pretty cool in the winter months but it’s great for golfing.
Southeast Asia
- Best months: November to February
- Worst months: Hottest between April and May; rainy from June to September
- If you are heading to Thailand, there is a major difference in weather between the beach-y islands. While Phuket is wetter in the summer, Koh Samui is usually drier and a better option for fun in the sun.
South Pacific, French Polynesia
- Best months: May to October
- Worst months: December to February (hot, humid, and rainy); Tahiti lies well outside the Pacific cyclone zone and while Fiji does not, it is rarely hit during the highest-risk months of January and February
Bali
- While Bali is in Asia, it’s season is much more like the South Pacific.
- Best months- May-October
- Worst months- December-March when it’s rainy season.
