Until pretty recently, you had to travel pretty far to stay in the ultimate in luxury. Most of the over water bungalows were in the French Polynesia, the Maldives or Seychelles. Now, with the addition of the Palafitos at El Dorado Maroma (in the Riviera Maya) and the over water villas at some of the Sandals resorts (Jamaica and St Lucia) you don’t have to travel quite as far.
But the original over water bungalows and lots more since then has become synonymous for the island of Bora Bora.
